Stung by a Bee

Bees are such fascinating insects. How wonderfully they collect the pollen grains from flowers and turn it into honey. For me it was just as magical as potion brewing in Harry Potter. I was never stung by a bee when I was a kid, though many of my friends had been lucky enough. When my younger brother was stung by a bee I was jealous. Firstly he created a huge scene while throwing tantrums and mum had to concede to his every wish to make him quite. Secondly I had a strong feeling that he was going to turn into ‘Bee-man’ just like how Peter Parker turned into Spider-Man after being bitten by a spider. After some days even my mum was stung by a bee, now I felt like a left out. I was longing to be stung by a bee, I even tried offering them some honey to receive their blessings but they never showered until recently.

The lucky occasion came during basketball class in evening. I was doing some shots in the basket away from rest of the children. I threw a ball and it went straight in the basket but with the ball came back and an angry bee that was probably hit by my ball. It charged on to my ear and I shrugged it off but it returned with double power and stung right on the side of my neck. I frantically threw it away and started shuddering. My mind was spinning and my neck was swelling from where the bee stung. My friend threw cold water on the sting and went to call my mom. My mother asked my father for the remedy and he advised to scrub it with soap and rub ice on it to remove the sting. We followed the instructions and I believe the sting came out but still the throbbing pain continued. When I was actually facing the situation no pleasant thoughts about the bee-man or blessings came it was just the unbearable pain. Then I had this bad feeling that maybe I wasn’t stung by Apis Mallifera, the docile bee it had be some Indian variety which attacked me and hence it could be even poisonous. Maybe right at that moment all the poison was spreading in my body and I was going to die. That thought chilled me; I was not ready to die yet I planned to live a long life. Tears started to flow and I started to apologize for my every mistake and started to pray for my survival.
I believe my prayers were answered because I am still alive. Two weeks have passed after this incident but still the scar remains on my ear and neck where the bee stung me. These scars remind me the old saying ‘All that glitters are not gold.’ I was excited to be stung by a bee but it proved actually fatal for me. So, friends let this tale be a lesson for you that bee sting is quite deadly and there is no need to be fascinated by it like I was.

  1. Surely I would never be tempted to be stung. 😁

  2. That's so realistic. From now, Bee stung is certainly out of the fascination list 😄

  3. Yes, I just learnt in my science class that bees release formic acid in us.
It’s treatment is to put a calamine lotion or zinc carbonate(base to neutralise).
    I found it very relatable.
Also, thanks for advice, from now on, I will never be willing to get “stung by a bee”
