A Tr(u)ee Friend

I wanted a friend that would give me his entire resources but would ask for nothing in return. Last week itself I found my selfless friend in the form of a small sapling which was provided by the school to be grown. When I received the plant I could feel a sort of connection with it. As I was unaware of its type, my teacher told me that it was a Guava sapling. I thought that though, guavas are not my favorites still this sapling would be special for me. While returning back to home my mind was revolving about what name should I keep for it? Finally a lovely name struck me – ‘Amroodhaya’ meaning the guava giver. Amroodhaya became my best friend; I planted her in a perfect spot inside my garden. I sat down beside it. It was quite peaceful in the garden; I had visited it after a long time as the busy routine spares no time for gardening. Sitting beside my friend I began to talk to her. I told her about myself and difficulties of human life, I told her about the plantae kingdom and then laughed as she had to not at all worry about her genus, class or family. I kept on blabbering and Amroodhaya like a sincere listener listened attentively, she even gave an occasional nod or two for her assent. I looked at her again this time with respect as this plant is going to help the life on earth go on by providing oxygen for the future. Its guavas are going to satisfy our hunger and its dense leaves would provide us shade and also relief to sore throats. But this plant asked me nothing for her efforts all she requires is a little water and love to grow. When I got up to leave a gust of wind flowed by and Amroodhaya waved goodbye to me. I smiled feeling happy to have a selfless friend like her who paves way for a better future.
