Missing the Yellow Buses

The horn of the school bus led to a rush of adrenaline, we would quickly jam the toast in our mouth and hoist the bag carelessly and would hasten towards the waiting bus. Now due to this pandemic the yellow buses had vanished from streets. No longer are the mornings echoed with the iconic horn of the school bus nor is there any rush of adrenaline. Now the day starts with our laptops which are uncannily silent and dull.

Inside the yellow bus everyday was different. Sometimes the bus was filled with craft; colours and drawings sheets flew around everywhere as many last-minute workers struggled to finish the big projects. The other days near the exam time the bus interior was extremely silent only the occasional rustle of the page was audible. During the special occasions the bus used to become colourful due to the vibrant and fancy costumes. Now the dates are just digits and all the days seem just as same as the others.

The bus used to enliven every season; during the rainy season, the cool drizzle on the face was a relief. Winter brought many canvas’s in form of the mist coated windows on which we used to draw until we reached school. The summer afternoons were drowsy and warm and sleeping in the bus was a novelty. The spring scents were sweeter when smelled inside the overcrammed bus. Now getting out the house has become rare let alone the chance to feel the seasons.

The conversations in the bus were long and undisturbed. This hustle and bustle in the yellow bus could have irritated me at the time but now I miss it. I now just miss the yellow bus and my ears wait near the window to listen to its iconic horn and my eyes too search for a glimpse of Yellow in the usual horde of cars crossing my home.
